About me

Compound emotions resist language; once it took me a whole thesis to explain why not to explain. The fact is that my art practice is the language itself. I work to translate my doubts and absurd experiences by using my practice as a communication tool. Borrowing from my personal life, lived [and not lived] experience, collective memory, rare aesthetics, and internet subcultures. For me, this language making is a slow process of “becoming” and an exercise to stay in touch with the immaterial.

My name is Babak Modarresi (b. 1996). I'm an Iranian multimedia and digital media artist based in Groningen. Studied Sculpture for my bachelor's degree at the University of Tehran and finished my master's degree in the MADtech program (Media, Art, Design & Technology) at Hanze University.

I work across a variety of formats, such as video games, VR, and other digital medias physically represented through prints, screenings, 3D-printed objects, and installations that combine these forms. By pushing a radical hyperreal quality in my works, I try to blur traditional and analog mediums, such as photography, into the virtual and digital media.
